Click to copyText patterns and frames: what the border characters are
A text pattern wraps your words in a matched pair of Unicode ornaments, such as ★彡 on one side and 彡★ on the other. The text in the middle stays exactly as you typed it; only the frame is decoration.
Where the frame characters come from
Most frames reuse punctuation and letters from other writing systems. ꧁ and ꧂ are a left and right ornament from Javanese script. ༺ and ༻ are a pair of Tibetan brackets. 『 』 and 【 】 are brackets from Chinese and Japanese typography, 𓆩 and 𓂀 are Egyptian hieroglyphs, and 彡 and 亗 are Chinese characters chosen purely for their shape.
Because these belong to scripts that many devices never need, support is uneven. Javanese and the hieroglyphs entered Unicode in 2009, and a phone or computer with no font for them shows an empty box or a question mark on each side of your text. The corner brackets, stars and hearts are older and far more widely supported.
Choosing a frame for a name
The frames here add between 4 and 28 characters to whatever you type, spaces included, so the long ones rarely fit a name field with a short limit. Fields restricted to letters, digits and a few punctuation marks, which covers most usernames and handles, refuse every frame. If a field rejects your framed name, paste the frame alone to learn whether the ornament or the length is the problem.
Since the words inside stay in plain letters, a framed name can still be read aloud and found by search. A screen reader may announce the ornaments by name or skip them, so keep the frame short wherever the name matters.
| Character | Code point | Unicode name | Script and frame |
|---|---|---|---|
| 彡 | U+5F61 | CJK UNIFIED IDEOGRAPH-5F61 | Chinese character (Star Border frame) |
| ꧁ | U+A9C1 | JAVANESE LEFT RERENGGAN | Javanese (Ornate frame) |

| Where | Result | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Instagram bio | Works | Frames count toward the bio's character limit. Rare scripts may show as boxes for some visitors. |
| Instagram username | No | Usernames accept only letters, numbers, periods and underscores. |
| Discord display name | Partly | Symbols are accepted, but long frames can exceed the name length limit. Short frames such as ♡ or 『 』 fit best. |
| Free Fire nickname | Partly | The game decides which characters a nickname may contain and can change that at any time. Short frames leave more room for the name itself. |
| TikTok bio | Works | Pasted as typed. Check it on a second device if the frame uses Javanese, Tibetan or hieroglyphs. |
| WhatsApp message | Works | Sent as typed. A recipient whose phone lacks a font for the frame sees boxes around your text. |
More questions
- Why do I see boxes instead of the frame?
- Your device has no font for that script, most often Javanese or Egyptian hieroglyphs. Pick a frame made of stars, hearts or corner brackets, which older devices also support.
- What is 彡 and why is it in so many star patterns?
- It is a Chinese character component usually glossed as bristle or hair. Its three slanting strokes look like the trail of a shooting star, which is the only reason it appears beside ★.
- Can I frame text that is already in a fancy style?
- Yes. The frame wraps whatever you paste into the box, including styled letters copied from another tool. Styled letters are harder for screen readers and search to handle, so keep names people must find in plain letters.
- Which frames are most likely to display for other people?
- Those built from long-established symbols: stars, hearts, dots, lines and the Chinese and Japanese corner brackets. Frames that use Javanese, Tibetan or hieroglyphic characters depend on fonts that fewer devices carry.
